Broke-coli Backpack

Description: Backpack featuring a pun. The central piece of this design is what looks like a broccoli, or at least that was the intention when depicting it and it supposedly was used as reference picture. It has a sad expression and its tiny hands are pulling its empty pockets out, in the widespread gesture that means one does not have any money, while under it there's a bit of text that reads "BROKE-COLI".

This work was one of the last of the first batch before starting using vectors, and while it has some advantages, like the fact that the lines have a more authentic feeling, its disadvantage is that you have to use the selection tool, and it sometimes doesn't select what you need and have to redo the same step several times before reaching a satisfactory result. With the selected parts turned into layers, getting the outline is pretty straightforward.

There's a mildly noticeable gradient below the broccoli top. The rest of the broccoli, which includes expression, arms and pockets was made with the use of shapes, masking the lines that weren't needed; and the text also has a gradient. This was submitted as an entry for the Threadless Retail Trends Design Challenge. All in all a product that is both stylish and useful.

Demon/Demoff Blanket

Demon/Demoff Fleece Blanket

Description: Fleece Blanket featuring a simple and funny design. Left part of the image shows a red demon head with yellow eyes with a switch on its front and the word "Demon" below. This was one of the first designs in this new batch to be done entirely with vectors, once the reference image was found, I vectorized the outer shape, and then proceeded to tweak it a bit. Once I had the image on the left ready it was just a matter of copying the layers and moving them into the right then have the colors changed for darker tones. After that, I looked for pictures of switches to be used as reference, and I found the ones used in this work, which are fairly easy to replicate with simple shapes.

With most of the bulk of work done, the easiest part was write the text with the brand font in the purple brand color and placing the double outline. The design is right in the middle of the item, with a background in a clear orange hue, this blanket looks too cool to be true.

Fullerene Clock

Description: Wall Clock featuring a science joke design. An accurate description of the visual could be the following, there is one fullerene molecule in the left with the text "Fullerene", while on the right there's the outline of the same fullerene molecule, but only the outline, and the text associated with it reads "Emptyrene". On a technical standpoint this design is pretty simplistic, and the only challenge was getting a good depiction of the molecule and selecting as much of the background as possible to be put under a mask, as the program itself has an outline tool, and working with opacity was pretty easy.

Nasal Duvet Cover

Description: Duvet Cover featuring a parody of a logo. The focus of interest in this design is the widely known NASA logo in which the red line from the original one is now in the shape of a very sharp nose, the white asteroid/shooting star is the outline of the nostril and there's a black mass to simulate the nostril, to all this changes the text in this design reads "NASAL".

In this case, the very first thing that came into my mind was the "nasal" text, so I vectorized the letters N, A and S, and then reimagined how an L would look like in that font style so I could vectorize it too. I used the shape tool to draw a blue cirle. Now that I had the text the next step would be to find an imaginative way to put a nose or something nose related on the logo, and thinking for a while I came to the conclusion that the red line in the original logo could be the outer shape of a nose. With that in mind I managed to reposition the red lines and sketched it albeit in a very sharp shape for a nose, but I somehow wanted to keep the flow and not put too much roundness.

I noticed that in the original logo there was a white line which may be an asteroid or something like that, so I vectorized it and repositioned it to look like the outline of a drawn nostril. The final step was to put something black in, which I managed with the Shape tool, and drew some tiny stars here and there like in logo used as reference. The choice of color for this product is black, with the design being in the center of it, no pattern. If you are a fan of parodies of famous logos, then I'm proud to say that this is the Duvet Cover of your dreams.

Jello World! Tapestry

Description: Tapestry featuring a funny and cute design. The visual is pretty simplistic with heavy outlines, it shows a purple blob of jelly in the right part of the picture in front of a laptop, with the following text visible on screen, widely known to deveolpers and people in the coding scene: "JELLO WORLD!"

On the technical aspect of this work, first of all I searched for a reference for the jelly and the computer. Both the jelly outline and the laptop were done with vectors, however, the keyboard was done using the shape tool in outline mode and then transformed the resulting rectangle to a convenient perspective. The highlights inside the blob of jelly were also done with vectors. There's a mild gradient in the text, and the finishing touch is a grey ellipse that works both as a shadow and as the floor.

This design is perfect for computer related products, such as Mouse Pads or maybe a Desk Mat or a Laptop Sleeve, but is also a good as a decorative jelly design in a Tapestry.

This design was one of the last of the first batch before the use of vectors, and while it has some advantages, like the fact that the lines have a more authentic feeling, its disadvantage is that you have to use the selection tool, and it sometimes selects parts of the image that you don't need, which means that you have to redo the same step a number of times, changing settings, before reaching a satisfactory result. With the selected parts turned into layers, getting the outline is pretty straightforward.

There's a very mild gradient below the broccoli top. The rest of the broccoli, which includes expression, arms and pockets was made with the use of shapes, masking the lines that weren't needed; and the text has a gradient too. This was submitted as an entry for the Threadless Retail Trends Design Challenge. The design is in a pattern all over the Shower Curtain, with a very smooth green background, which will for sure make your showers more relaxing.

Broke-coli Duvet Cover

Description: Duvet Cover featuring a pun. The central piece of this design is what looks like a broccoli, or at least that was the intention when depicting it and it supposedly was used as reference picture. It has a sad expression and its tiny hands are pulling its empty pockets out, in the widespread gesture that means one does not have any money, while under it there's a bit of text that reads "BROKE-COLI".

This work was one of the last of the first batch before starting using vectors, and while it has some advantages, like the fact that the lines have a more authentic feeling, its disadvantage is that you have to use the selection tool, and it sometimes doesn't select what you need and have to redo the same step several times before reaching a satisfactory result. With the selected parts turned into layers, getting the outline is pretty straightforward.

There's a mildly noticeable gradient below the broccoli top. The rest of the broccoli, which includes expression, arms and pockets was made with the use of shapes, masking the lines that weren't needed; and the text also has a gradient. This was submitted as an entry for the Threadless Retail Trends Design Challenge. This Duvet Cover has the design in a pattern all over it with a very light green background.

The design is right in the center of the product, with a fair orange background, it creates a cool effect in the Queen and King size duvet covers, as each of the demon heads rests where each person is sleeping (as seen on the sample image above).

Fullerene Backpack

Description: Backpack featuring a science joke design. The visual goes as follows, there is one fullerene molecule in the left with the text "Fullerene", while on the right there's the outline of the same fullerene molecule, but only the outline, and the text associated with it reads "Emptyrene". This design is pretty simplistic, and the only challenge was getting a good angle of the molecule and selecting as much of the background as possible to be put under a mask, as the program itself has an outline tool, and working with opacity was pretty easy.

The text features one of the brand's color and the brand font of choice. Overall not much work was needed for this design. The selected color for the background is a light grey, with the design all over the product; carry your stuff letting people see your passion for science with this cool looking backpack.

Nasal Throw Pillow

Description: Throw Pillow featuring a parody of a logo. The focus of interest in this design is the widely known NASA logo in which the red line from the original one is now in the shape of a very sharp nose, the white asteroid/shooting star is the outline of the nostril and there's a black mass to simulate the nostril, to all this changes the text in this design reads "NASAL".

In this case, the very first thing that came into my mind was the "nasal" text, so I vectorized the letters N, A and S, and then reimagined how an L would look like in that font style so I could vectorize it too. I used the shape tool to draw a blue cirle. Now that I had the text the next step would be to find an imaginative way to put a nose or something nose related on the logo, and thinking for a while I came to the conclusion that the red line in the original logo could be the outer shape of a nose. With that in mind I managed to reposition the red lines and sketched it albeit in a very sharp shape for a nose, but I somehow wanted to keep the flow and not put too much roundness.

I noticed that in the original logo there was a white line which may be an asteroid or something like that, so I vectorized it and repositioned it to look like the outline of a drawn nostril. The final step was to put something black in, which I managed with the Shape tool, and drew some tiny stars here and there like in logo used as reference. The choice of color for this product is white, with the design being in the center of it, no pattern. If you are a fan of parodies of famous logos, then this Throw Pillow is for you.

Jello World! Yoga Mat

Description: Yoga Mat featuring a funny and cute design. The visual is pretty simplistic with heavy outlines, it shows a purple blob of jelly in the right part of the picture in front of a laptop, with the following text visible on screen: "JELLO WORLD!"

On the technical aspect of this work, first of all I searched for a reference for the jelly and the computer. Both the jelly outline and the laptop were done with vectors, however, the keyboard was done using the shape tool in outline mode and then transformed the resulting rectangle to a convenient perspective. The highlights inside the blob of jelly were also done with vectors. There's a mild gradient in the text, and the finishing touch is a grey ellipse that works both as a shadow and as the floor.

This funny design is perfect for computer related products, such as a Mouse Pad or maybe a Desk Mat or a Laptop Sleeve, however I'll try something different and I'll put it in a yoga mat, which is also the first time I'm trying to sell one.

Hidden Network's High Five - 5 unusual places where your gold making idea might come to you

A list of 5 unusual places where inspiration strikes more often than not

While may be difficult to prove scientifically, does it happen to you that there are some rooms in your house where you are more likely to be struck with an idea than others? It has happened to me but I still have to find the one that pays for my retirement, in the meantime if you keep digging for ideas in those unusual places you might find one that makes gold for you. And without anything else to say, let's dive into this list:

1. 1st place: Toilet

   It might not be the best place to write a book, or the most comfortable, but that brief moment where you are taking a pee or the longer moment when you are taking a dump, where the thought of urgency stops and the sense relief takes over, in my opinion is a very helpful feeling for your brain to put up some work.

2. 2nd place: Shower

   Not only showering keeps us clean and makes us better singers (according to some article I read ages ago it's because the humidity in the room while we shower makes the sound better), but it also frees us momentarily from worries and other thoughts. That's then when you are more receptive to whatever your brain wants to tell you. And remember to save as much water as you can, you never know when you'll need it.

3. 3rd place: Cooking

   Technically not a place in itself, but it's kinda related to the next item which is also in the kitchen, maybe. There are recipes where you have to wait for a certain amount of time for stuff to happen, or just recipes that you know so well and do it so automatically, that you brain just spaces out. So, the next time you are making chicken nuggets you might also find yourself a gold nugget in the form of a good idea.

4. 4th place: Washing dishes

   Related to the previous point and for those of us who either don't like using a dishwasher or don't have one, the silver lining is that washing dishes can be a relaxing activity if you plan it accordingly. And a relaxed brain is a powerful machine.

5. 5th place: Outside walking the dog

   If you have a dog you surely have at least a couple of routes planned for when it needs to go out. Like with the previous 4 points, we are just looking for that activity that is limited in time and it can be done without putting too much thought into, so we can let our brain open and receptive to ideas from the outside. Cheerleader with a chainsaw - Silhouette Throw Pillow

Description: Throw Pillow featuring a video game reference design. Lollipop Chainsaw is coming out soon, so I'm jumping a bit in the bandwagon with some designs hoping to attract some fellow video gamers and getting my stores out a bit for people to see. It's fully done with vectors, going from less detailed stuff, mainly the outline, to more detailed stuff and thinner lines. And then applied a bit of color. I didn't include the San Romero Knights letters in Juliet's cheerleader attire in order to not make it too apparent for copyright reasons, which in part is why I didn't put the faces, however this is also an artistic reason, as I thought it looks good enough as is.

A Cow with a Moustache on Kids' Premium Hoodie

Description: Premium Hoodie featuring a pun and a simple design. This was my entry for the Threadless Design Challenge "Doodlecore". The focus is centered on a very simple drawing of a black and white cow with a grey moustache and horns, with both ears tagged. It also includes the text "MOO-STACHE" at the base and a blue background.

On the technical side of the design, the outline was done digitally through vectors with the help of the picture of a real cow that served as reference. With the outline done, it was filled with white color, and then used the standard brush to paint the black parts. The tags in both ears and the eyes were added later in different layers. With most of the work done, vectors were used again to draw a moustache, which given the theme of the contest it didn't have to be perfectly symmetrycal, and painted it grey.

That was the finishing touch of the cow, but not of the design, so a gradient was applied in different tones of blue, and finally with the standard brush and using the mouse, the text "MOO-STACHE" was written under the gradient. Making use of the mouse allowed a more imperfect look, but with some letters many tries were needed, so it wasn't completely unreadable.

The simplistic design stands out in the middle of the hoodie, right on the chest position, with a wide variety of colors to choose from, so your kid will be the coolest in school, or schoolest.

Monkey playing with Red Thread Baby Bodysuit

Description: Red Baby Bodysuit featuring a video game reference design. The title of this composition is pretty self-explanatory, as it shows a brown grey-ish little monkey with a bobbin of thick red shiny thread in front of the aforementioned primate, making a gesture as to take it or play with it. While this is the purely visual setting, the main focus of this design is the hidden message that the monkey, which represents the highly acclaimed by critics and gamers alike Black Myth Wukong, is playing with a red thread, which represents Red Thread Games, the studio in charge of the so-called game that is Dustborn.

One of the ideas that I ended discarding was to draw a shadow for both the monkey and the red thread, because I didn't want to clutter the design and distract the viewer. Another discarded idea was to draw a crown on the top of the monkey's head because you know, Wukong is the monkey king.

In the technical aspect of the design, the outlines are mostly done with vectors in order to attain a crispier detail, the monkey doesn't have any shades, only a bit of higlight in the shoulder, the nose and the fingers, while most of the shading detail is focused on the red thread, which has a bit of shade gradient on the sides to give it a sense of depth, mixed with a bit of highlight in the center so it looks silky. Get one of this while they last and your baby will look the most awesome if that's even possible.
