Broke-coli Bath Mat
Description: Bath Mat featuring a pun. The central piece of this design is what looks like a broccoli, or at least that was the intention when depicting it and it supposedly was used as reference picture. It has an uneasy expression and its tiny hands are pulling its empty pockets out, in the widespread gesture that means one does not have any money, while in the lower part of it there's a hint of text that reads "BROKE-COLI".
This work was one of the last of the first batch before starting using vectors, and while it has some advantages, like the fact that the lines have a more authentic feeling, its disadvantage is that you have to use the selection tool, and it sometimes doesn't select what you need and have to redo the same step several times before getting where you want. With the selected parts turned into layers, getting the outline is a pretty straightforward job.
There's a mildly noticeable gradient below the broccoli top. The rest of the broccoli, which includes expression, arms and pockets was made with the use of shapes, masking the lines that weren't needed; and the text also has a gradient. This was submitted as an entry for the Threadless Retail Trends Design Challenge. The design forms a pattern in this bath mat with a fair green background.
