Chemist Cat Clock

Description: Clock featuring a cat and a funny design. This composition shows a standing grey-ish striped cat wearing safety lab glasses and holding one flask in each of its paws (that makes it two flasks because the cat is standing, remember?). One of the liquids is yellow and the other one is purple, and both of them are the brand colors of the Hidden Network. There's also two speech bubbles, one above the cat and the other one under it.

The top bubble says "This for-meow-la..." and the bottom one says "... needs better cat-alyst". The catspeak, needless to say, is the main selling point of this design, because let's get things straight, everyone loves a dose of cats catspeaking in their lives.

On the technical side of the project, this one was on the simple side of things, as I got a picture of a cat and I tried to work without vectors. First of all I selected the outline shape, mostly with the magic wand tool and playing with tolerance values. Once that was done, I filled the selection with a grey-ish color, and used the layer effects to get an outline. Most of the work was done by selecting the right part of the picture, then filling the selection and using layer effects to get outlines. The white highlights were done with the standard brush.

Finally, the stripes were done by setting the grey layer on top of the reference layer and using the cat picture filtered enough to get away with it. The speech bubbles were done with the shape tool set to shape with fill but no outline and a bit of polygonal selection here and there.

If you get this item and hang it into a wall nothing will stop you from saying, when asked for the time, that it's "cat o'clock"... And you know you want to utter those words.
